“I’m in the process of investigating by members,” said Director of Ditpolairud Polda NTT Kombes Pol Irwan Deffi Nasution in Kupang, on Sunday.

He made this statement when asked about the case of the arrest of two people related to the alleged abuse of subsidized BBM.

The two perpetrators who were arrested were MD, the owner of the ship, and RS, the seller of subsidized type of solar BBM to MD. Both are residents of Bari Village, Macang Pacar District, Manggarai Barat.

The arrests of the two were made on the KM.Maheswari ship GT 109 when the Ditpolairud Polda NTT KP.XXII-2007 patrol team conducted routine patrols in Labuan Bajo waters on Thursday (16/5).

The patrol team saw suspicious activities so they conducted an investigation and found out that MD was conducting buying and selling activities and transporting subsidized solar-type BBM without a commercial business permit and transport permit, and did not have a recommendation for filling subsidized BBM.

When checked on the ship, 360 liters of subsidized solar-type BBM were found filled in 20 jerry cans of approximately 18 liters each.

After arresting MD, the team then quickly moved to secure the other perpetrator with the initials “RS” who also sold the BBM to the owner of the Maheswari ship at the Labuan Bajo fish market.

“The activities carried out by MD and RS have been done three times with the aim of personal gain,” he said.

Director of Ditpolairud Polda NTT stated that both violated Article 55 of Law no. 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas as amended by Law 6 of 2023 on the establishment of Government Regulation Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation into a Law jo Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

“Both are facing a maximum imprisonment of six years,” he added.
